Have you ever gone looking for treasure when you were a kid (or maybe as an adult)? Well, if you are in the spirit of discovering a jewel…then Angry Erik Brewing is a true pearl!! Located in the northwestern town of Newton, New Jersey, we found this brewery to be an AWESOME find!! As we approached the red, barn-colored metal building, we were totally surprised by what we found inside. Thinking that the establishment was going to have a farm or country-based decor, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it had a Norwegian viking theme to it!! 

The first thing we noticed when we entered was the big, beautifully handcrafted bar…made by the co-owner himself, Erik. The bar resembled a Norwegian viking ship…complete with a beautiful hard carved head and tail on opposite ends…very impressive! There is also a huge mast with the company’s official Norwegian flag hoisted upon it. There are a lot of viking themed designs decorating a nicely spaced tasting room which add to the Norwegian/Viking theme. The color of the walls are unique as well…a golden/brown color, which adds to the warmth of this fabulous environment. We instantly felt a great vibe and positive atmosphere the minute we walked in. There is an upper (party) room that is very spacious and overlooks the main, lower floor tasting room…a GREAT place for parties and group gatherings! It is very family friendly and there are plenty of board/table games for everyone. An outdoor patio / party area for customers when the weather is warmer. They have a very nice variety of merchandise for sale…more than most breweries that we have visited…and many are very creative…cool stuff!

The bartenders were extremely friendly, happy, and more than willing to suggest to us the various kinds of drinks available as well as tell us a little bit about the brewery house itself. The owner, Erik, and his brewmaster wife, Heide were genuinely approachable and were good conversationalists. The Angry Erik has all kinds of smooth and satisfying drinks with a great range of light/fruity, hoppy, dark and malty tastes, and both American and Belgian style beers. There are 18 beverages on tap…and they are always changing! A Special note: One of the best things that we REALLY liked and appreciated, were the GREAT POURS of beer! Unlike many other breweries, their drinks had NO (foam) HEAD when the beers were given to us. My German father would have been very proud!

Without question, Angry Erik Brewing, was easily one of our Top 5 favorite breweries that we have visited so far as we continue our quest to visit every brewing company in New Jersey. We greatly exhort you to make a special visit to this wonderfully fun place to visit!
