We had heard from several people to make it a point to visit the Montclair Brewery and we are so happy that we did! Located in the north Jersey town of Montclair, the brewery is surrounded by many kinds of eateries, which is perfect if you are looking for something to eat as you partake of your favorite beer. Montclair Brewery offers a wide variety of events such as live bands, karaoke nights, corn hole leagues, fundraising and awareness events, and many other things!
The Montclair has both front and backyard patios. The backyard patio is spacious and is complete with both fire pits and heaters for those cooler nights. The comfortable and cozy interior tasting room and bar area has a rustic/vintage feel with an interesting large mural on one of the side walls. The bar is made up of a beautiful shellacked covered wood with ample seating around it. The brewery is both child and pet friendly…with water dishes available for the furry little friends.
We were welcomed by a super sweet and friendly bartender named Natalie. She had a warm smile, kind demeanor, and was so very helpful in suggesting not only what kind of brews to drink but also gave us great advice regarding which eatery to purchase our favorite food. There are an incredible 24 beers on tap…and honestly folks…you cannot go wrong with any of the drinks you order. Let me say this…if you like to try different kinds/tastes of brews, then this is the place for you! Leo, the owner of Montclair Brewery, is one of the happiest and nicest people that you will ever meet. He grew up in the West African town of Ouagadougou, and learned the art of brewing from his mother (in Africa, the women are the people that make the beers or distilled spirits). Once in America, he decided that he was going to brew his beers in a different way by using ingredients not only from his homeland of Africa but also from ingredients he gleans from around the world as he visits different locations. He told me that he has made over 50 different kinds of beers! The Montclair Brewery sells their tasty drinks in over 47 states nationwide…incredible! Not only is he a master beer maker but he also is a master distiller…he won the Tennessee “Master Distiller Championship” on the popular TV show, “Moonshiners: Master Distillers”. (Note: if you ever have the opportunity to meet Leo, his story from Africa to America is wonderful and should serve as an encouragement to all of us regarding success).
There is a wide variety of palate pleasing drinks to choose from such as roasted/salty stouts and lagers, hoppy/bitter IPA’s, fruity wheat beers, ales, IPA’s, medium body lagers such as the Munich Dunkel or the Belgian Dubbel. There are also crisp/light pilsners, ales, and wheats, for all of you individuals to enjoy lighter tasting beverages. Seltzers, slushies, and crafted soda are all also available for your enjoyment. Like I said, there is a beer/drink that is available for everyone that will tickle everyone’s palates and satisfy their thirst!
If you are looking for a small craft brewery with delectable and flavorful beers/drinks with a cheerful and delightful ambiance with friendly beer drinking patrons…then I suggest you make the Montclair Brewery the target of your next small beer company visit, enjoy a brew and say hello to Leo…he will make your day!
CHEERS!
