We have visited quite a number of breweries within the past few months, but none have been newer than the “Autodidact Beer” company which, at the time of our visit (April 2023), had only been open for 5 WEEKS! So, please keep that in mind as you read this review. There is certainly a great looking future ahead for this brewery!
First of all, you may be wondering…what in the world is “Autodidact”? What does it mean? Where did the founders get that name from? Well, this is pretty interesting…the owners, Ron Cassel and Ronnie Scouten, both started their brewing experience in their basement. Over the years, they decided to open their own brewery, thus, the “Autodidact Beer” company. The inspiration for the name of the company is two-fold: 1) it is the name of a song from an alternative English rock band, and 2) the meaning of “autodidact” literally means, “self-taught”. That is exactly what the owners are…self taught, lovers of crafting their own beers!
After much work, the converted tile store is now the brewery. The tasting room and bar area has a clean, fresh, and inviting atmosphere. It has plenty of flora decorations on the walls and surrounding with a great view of the new kettles and brewing tanks. The stone bar is a beautiful and well crafted piece of work. There is a nice little area right next to the bar, a little nook, where you can sit and relax on some nice comfortable couches.
The overall atmosphere was pleasant, enjoyable, and delightful. The bartenders were GREAT and owners were very friendly and were happy to share their suggestions for the beers that we might like and tell us the origins of the establishment. The clientele were all young/middle aged and were happy to introduce themselves to us and have good conversations.
The drink menu was limited…only 7 beers on tap…but that is sure to increase over time and as the brewery gains popularity and the number of great drinks they create escalate. Don’t be fooled by their finite menu, the drinks were very good tasting and savory. Some of the brews on the list include list IPA’s, Ales, Lagers, a hoppy Blonde, and more.
Autodidact is a brand new brewery that has a very bright and promising future that all beer lovers will enjoy! Good vibes and good people…you will love this place!!
