* Ocean Township was the birthplace of Marie Castello. Who is she you ask? She was the fortune teller known as Madam Marie who became widely known after being mentioned in Bruce Springsteen’s 1973 song, “4th of July, Asbury Park, Sandy”. The fortune telling hut was located on the Asbury Park boardwalk. Springsteen would visit her in his younger days and many celebrities visited her when they walked the boardwalk from Convention Hall such as Judy Garland, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra!

The Kane Brewing Company is the third largest brewery in the state of New Jersey occupying almost 25,000 square feet across three buildings and having over 40 full and part-time team members. All of their beer is crafted in a 20-barrel brewhouse and their commitment to quality beer is second to none. Owner, Michael Kane, is a “hands on” owner and oversees all of the details that need to be done in a brewery. Once a worker on Wall Street, his love for beer and brewing won his heart, thus he decided in 2011, to open his own brewery, Kane Brewing Company. How good is he? After learning the brewing process, several former brewers of the company decided to venture out and begin their own brewery such as the founder of the great tasting brewery in Hackettowns, NJ, Czig Meister Brewing!
In 2023, Kane opened a brand new tasting/tap room. We found the room to be very spacious with plenty of seating. There is a small, cozy lounge area with nice couches where you can sit back, relax, and unwind. The decor has a semi rustic/woodsy-type feel to it. For the warmer months, there is also an outside area where you can go to drink a fabulous brew and feel the cool ocean breezes flow through your hair. There is plenty of cool merchandise for sale. There is a wide variety of glasses (of all sizes), growlers, shirts, hoodies, hats, and other gear available. The environment is very relaxed, easy going, and amiable…a terrific place to gather with your family and friends! Unfortunately, we visited Kane Brewery early in the day…as soon as it opened…other customers have commented that it is packed on weekends, etc.
The brewery creates numerous kinds of beers and drinks. Their best-selling Head High IPA, Overhead Imperial IPA and Sneak Box Pale Ale, are available in addition to approximately 30 and more other varieties. Generally speaking, whatever kind of beer you like…they make it. There are all kinds and varieties of ales, stouts, lagers, wheat beers, porters, IPAS, Belgiums…too many to list…available for your drinking pleasure!
There is other good news! The Kane Brewing Company is only minutes from the historic Asbury Park beach/boardwalk and other beaches on the Jersey shore…and if you do go to the Asbury Park boardwalk, check out Madame Marie’s Fortune Telling Hut (as mentioned above). There are also numerous shops, stores, and eateries that are located close by that you can visit before making your way to the brewery to finish your busy day!
