The APEX Brewery, located in Monroe, New York, is a brewery that you need to visit the next time you are in or around the Orange County area. The brewery is owned by David Holm with his wife, Rachael. Before I go any further,I have to say this…Dave is not only a “hands on” owner but legitimately one of the nicest and friendliest PEOPLE that I have ever met! Once you meet him, you will know exactly what I mean. Dave is passionate and caring about the drinks he creates and bringing his customers wholesome and savory brews.
The outside of the brewery is unassuming but once you enter, you will notice something unique…a tasting room / bar area in which the walls are adorned with pictures and art of roller derby people, items, and events. A person might consider the interior decor as “warehouse chic”. This is a reflection of some of the things that Dave enjoys. He loved to perform many extreme activities such as jumping from a helicopter, skydiving (over 1500 times), and participating on a roller derby team…thus the reason for having a roller derby decor inside the building and for creating the name of the brewery. The apex of the roller derby track is located at the curves on the two ends of the oval track. Thus, being an ex-roller derby player, he decided that would be the perfect name of his establishment…thus…the APEX Brewery! There is a large projection system which displays videos of extreme sports up on the tasting room wall! We haven’t seen any breweries that we have visited with a setup like this…very cool! An outdoor picnic table area is available for your enjoyment as well.
APEX is pet and family friendly and there are many events planned sometimes on a weekly or monthly basis such as Food Bingo or Music Bingo, Trivia Night, Comedy Shows, and monthly karaoke shows and even fun events such as the “Yappy Hour” in which a person get receive a $1 discount on a drink if you bring in you pet dog. There are chips and small snacks for sale but there are food trucks available quite often. There is a “Mug Club” available and it is really a pretty good deal…you gotta check it out!
Now, on to the drinks. APEX offers IPA’s, Seltzers, a Barleywine, and a pale ale lager. The drink menu is somewhat limited but plans are in the works of vastly improving the production of more flavorsome beers with the new purchase of another total brewing system which will be added to the current system that they presently have. More good times ahead! The pale ale called, “Severance” was named after Dave was bought out from a previous job and the drink, “Zebras Always Win” of course, was named after referees (remember, Dave was a roller derby competitor). All in all, the drinks are all very crisp, clean, and distinctive. You will love them!
Looking for a nice day out? Make it a point to visit the APEX Brewery! You will REALLY enjoy your time there and take a moment to say hello to Dave. He will make you feel right at home, be happy to tell you about the brewery, and enjoy a nice, cold drink at the same time. You will be happy you went!
