According to Greek mythology, Icarus and his father were sent to an island to die but ended up building something that he hadn’t done before…you will need to read the rest of the story to see what happens but according to the owner and head brewer of Icarus Brewing, Jason Goldstein, the name of the brewery follows the same idea of the story of Icarus, they are always striving to make something better. Icarus Brewing is constantly creating, changing their beers, and looking for new recipes but more about them in a minute.
Icarus Brewing is located in a small industrial park just a few minutes down the street from the Jersey Shore BlueClaws baseball stadium (you need to go to a game there…fun stadium with lifeguard stands that you can sit in to watch games!). There is a beer garden just outside the brewery which offers nice picnic tables with umbrellas and a great place to enjoy the ocean air and the brewery is very pet friendly. Upon entering Icarus, you will find a nice sized tasting room/bar area complete with cool looking barrel-type tables. If you are someone who enjoys a funky, 70’s or 80’s environment, then this is the place for you!!! There are a lot of funky pictures (as well as beer can labels) that give the atmosphere of Icarus a fun, exciting, and jovial feel. There was a good assortment of merchandise for sale such as different kinds of glasses, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc. One thing that we found to be AWESOME was that the music that is played is played by a record player (remember those? 🙂 with a selection of literally over 200+ records albums to choose from!!
We were joyously welcomed by four exceptionally wonderful bartenders, Alex, Seth, Frank, and Lily, who not only were more than happy to answer our questions but to happily suggest their wide assortment of drinks. Let us say this, everything is great regardless of the style. There are 24 beers on tap and available upon request. Here are some examples of the awesome brews that they have: A Russian Imperial Stout, “Kalashnikov” (w/maple syrup and vanilla beans)…”Zwickelbier” (a German lager)…a Baltic porter, a barrel aged quadrupel ale, “Berliner Weiss” (a sour wheat beer), a Mexican lager, an Irish stout, “Wejack” (a Czech-style amber lager), and a Japanese rice lager that they co-created along with other breweries such as Bolero Snort! There are seltzers, slushies, and other tastes of stouts, pilsners, and ales…the list goes on and on. A couple of their signature beers are Drinking Crayons and Shrinking Crayons (NEIPA) and “Yacht Juice” (a double NEIPA).
For all you fellow craft beer aficionados, Icarus Brewing needs to be a destination that you won’t want to miss! You will enjoy your experience there and relish your drinks even more!
CHEERS!
A Special Note:
Icarus Brewing is in the process of constructing a brand new facility in Brick, the next town over. They hope to have it completed by the end of the year, in which they will be uprooting themselves entirely. It will be nearly 5 times the size of our current location, with a legitimate beer garden and more than just the dozen parking spaces we are using right now. AWESOME!
