Fun Facts About Randolph, New Jersey
*New Jersey’s first iron mine was established in Randolph in 1713, and for hundreds of years the mines fostered the development of the township, providing the raw materials for weapons used by the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
*The Fort Nonsense Brewery was named after the historical Revolutionary War fortification of the same name, Fort Nonsense. As early as the 1790s the hill was called Fort Nonsense. A legend had grown that Washington had set his men to fortify the hill simply as a way of keeping troops busy. This explanation is very unlikely. In their pension claims after the war, soldiers referred to the work as “Fort Nonsense”.

Fort Nonsense in Randolph, New Jersey is a fabulous and fun place to visit with friends and drink nice cold, tasty brews!! The bartenders, Ryan and E, were helpful, friendly, and willing to share their thoughts of their favorite drinks and recommend different ones for us. They have four “core” brews that are basically offered year-round while the other 12 drinks are continuously created and rotated on a seasonal basis. Here are the four drinks: “Project Lola:, a pilsner, the “Benedict Amber”, which is a traditional amber ale, the hazy IPA, “In Full Effect”, and the “Arnold’s Tavern”, a flavorful porter. Fort Nonsense also offers a plethora of other drinks such as rye lagers, a Czech pilsner, a wide variety of seltzers (raspberry, raspberry/lime, lemon/lime, kiwi, watermelon, strawberry rose, blood orange, and mango), sours, porters, a shandy, and even some fun drinks such as the, “Humuhumunukunukuapuaa”. Yes, folks, that is the real name of one of their IPAs that uses Hawaiin Wakatu hops!!!
The brewery is very family and child friendly, with a number of games available to play at your convenience. We found the other customers to be happy, cheerful, and good natured. The indoor area has simple tables surrounded by colonial-looking chairs, which add to the ambience. There is also a small sitting area that contains comfortable couches and a huge picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. There is a nice outdoor beer garden/outdoor area in which you can enjoy the fresh air and cool beer.
The name of the brewery was named after the historical Revolutionary War fort, Fort Nonsense, but believe me, everyone, there is nothing silly about this establishment… you will LOVE it!
CHEERS!
