Fun Facts About Ossining, New York
*Sing Sing’s name comes from the Indian phrase sin sinck . It means stone on stone. In 1901, three years after Edison introduced the electric chair at Sing Sing, the town changed its name to Ossining so people wouldn’t confuse it with the jail.

Tucked into a small and beautiful town on the east side of the Hudson River, you will find the hip and fun “Sing Sing Kill Brewery.” We instantly were welcomed by their friendly and helpful bartender Matt and enjoyed an informative conversation with the assistant brewmaster, Rich. Fun fact: the name “Sing Sing” was the original name of the town of Ossining. The word, “Kill,” is a Dutch word that means “river” or “stream. “
There is a small outdoor seating area to enjoy a drink, or you can go inside to the big tasting room/bar area which is loaded with all kinds of fascinating facts and nuances surrounding the room that you will need to discover during your visit. For example, if you look at the picture of the window, this is what the symbols represent (beginning at the top to bottom): 1. Monastery 2. Chains of the prison 3. Indian arrowheads 4. Hudson River. The main bar is a beautiful stone bar covered with a clear resin…looks awesome! There is a long shelf on one side of the room with a wide assortment of art and photos. The designs on the windows behind the bar actually symbolize the growth and development of the town of Ossining.
We found the brews to be quite good and delicious. The good news: all of the 100% of the ingredients that are used to create the drinks from New York state and they use ZERO EMISSIONS to transport them…they are shipped to a dock on the Hudson…just blocks away…then transported to the brewery via a bicycle!! Their signature/most popular brews are the “Singularity” a hoppy ale, an English-type ale, the “Charlotte the ESP.”and the excellent “Smoke Maple” porter, the woodsy, maple flavor actually tastes like bacon! So good!
There are also many kinds of entertainment that are offered, such as comedy shows, beer pong, open mic night, west African, AND Salsa dancing!
If you are in the Westchester, NY area and are searching for a great brewery to visit, the Sing Sing Kill Brewery is waiting just for you!!
CHEERS!
