*In 1883, the new Anglesea Land Line  began its railroad line from western New Jersey to the Anglesea / Wildwood beach areas. Unfortunately, the tracks were laid on marshy land of the Grassy Sound and often, during the tide changes, the tracks would shift causing the train to derail. Passengers and crews would often have to wait in the wetlands for the tracks to be reset. The name of the train soon became known as the “MudHen” referring to the little marsh birds, the MudHens!

We found the MudHen to be simply amazingly awesome! It is the biggest brewery that we have visited and the only one in NJ which has a food menu, mostly bbq-type, and we found the food we ate very tasty and filling! 

There are FOUR bars, an upstairs loft w/ a bar, an huge outdoor seating area complete with a fire pit, corn hole games, and another bar, and a very nice outdoor patio in the front of the establishment! The indoor and outdoor areas are very spacious, relaxing, and comfortable…great places to have one of their great beers and listen to music during their live events (and/or dining pleasure). Our waiter, Clark, was one of the nicest, friendliest, and helpful people that we have met…definitely made us feel right at home! 

We found the beers to be crisp, zesty, and wholesome. Their imperial and New England IPA’s were GREAT! They have four signature beers: The “1883” IPA, the “MudHen Pils” pilsner, “Holly Beach Wheat” Witbier, and “Captain Doug’s” porter. There are also other great drinks available such as pale and scotch ales, a Kölsch, fruity blonde, & others. New drinks and brews are always being created and planned for future gratification. 

There are many live music events, corn hole tournaments, beach baseball competitions (for the kids), and more! If you are in the Wildwood or Cape May area, stop what you’re doing and go here…now!
