Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in a brewery and have a brew during the time of Thomas Jefferson when he was the President of the United States? The barn in which the Cold Spring Brewery is housed, was built in 1804 in Marmora, Upper Township, NJ, about 30 miles north of its present location. The Barn was bought by Anne Salvatore (executive director and founder of the Cold Spring Village) and her husband then transferred, board by board, to the Cape May/Cold Spring Village. Cold Spring is the only non-profit craft brewery in New Jersey, with all of its proceeds going towards the upkeep and maintenance of the village. It was built from big, thick pine and cedar wood in classic English three-bay barn construction.
The brewery has a nice outdoor seating area mostly covered in shade by the many trees surrounding the area and also contains a nifty fire pit. The indoor seating area and tasting room has a charming and cozy aura. There are various kinds of items that are associated with old farm artifacts that add to the charisma. Upon entering the brewery, you will instantly feel the warmth and welcoming vibe from the bartenders (Bill and Tom) and the patrons. The tables are made from beautifully crafted wood and comfortable leather chairs surround them. There is a relaxing and pleasant seating area with a few lush couches gathered around a fireplace and TV for your enjoyment.
Shane, the Master Brewer, makes good tasting beers such as a Hildreth German Wheat Beer, many ales, sours, a Hefeweizen and some IPA’s. There are always new beers created and rotated.
So, if you had a long day at the beach, or a busy time on the boardwalk, or active somewhere else in the Cape May area, you really need to visit the Cold Spring Brewery, you will love this rustic gem!
