The official Brooks Brewery (originally named the “Northside Lounge” in Manville, New Jersey, used to be a bar called “Mary’s Tavern” that existed for almost 60 years. Situated in an 110 year old building, Brooks Brewery is known as being a “little box of everything”…and that, they do! There are all kinds of interesting and fun relics, characters, artifacts and keepsakes scattered around the facility. The decor has an old bar feel to it and the friendly patrons and very cheerful and upbeat beertender, Katie, gives you a feel-at-home, neighborly “Cheers”-type perception.  There are plenty of activities to do along with your pint of brew such as playing darts, billiards (there are a lot of trophies on display), and a good number of board games. There is also a quaint outdoor patio area available for your enjoyment.

Since this brewery was once a bar/lounge before it was a brewery, Brooks does offer tasty food from their simple bar menu, such as the wonderfully delicious IPA french fries, buffalo wings, cheesesteaks, burgers, salads, and other types of bar food. 

The Brew Master, Arthur Hannamann, the creator of many of the drinks at Brooks, is a super nice, knowledgeable and talkative man with a big smile. The brewery offers all kinds of ales, stouts, Bocks, Pilsners, Dobblebocks, Weiss beers, IPA’s and others…they occasionally feature drinks from other NJ breweries such as Ghost Hawk Brewery, Ironbound Hard ciders, and others as well! Some brand beers and liquors are also available.

While this review is a rare time in which we reviewed a brewery that is really a combination of both a brewery and a bar, we think that you will have a pleasurable and positive experience during your visit to the Brooks Brewery. If you ever saw the TV show, “Cheers” and thought, “Wow, that would be a cool place to visit”…then this brewery is for you!!!
